Rwandarera

Rwandarera, a community-based HIV association, is comprised of 37 neighbors who live near the Partners In Health - supported hospital in Kirehe District of Eastern Province.

Results: Rwandarera members invested their savings in livestock projects, including rotating goat projects and collective cassava farming. With the profits from their farming project, they expanded their business from one cassava field in 2008 to three fields of cassava, beans, peanuts, and other crops in 2010. Profits have also been used to pay for health insurance for every association member. Furthermore, Rwandarera's members are now engaged in a rotating savings and credit program, through which they have saved and distributed nearly $1,000 in credit since the project's start in spring 2010.
