Tim Spittle

My name is Tim Spittle and I am a fourth year business major studying Social Entrepreneurship at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I am originally from Rockport, MA, a small town north of Boston, and still love going home to visit my family and friends as often as I can.

I first learned about the Ride Against AIDS from my involvement at the Social Enterprise Institute (SEI) here at Northeastern. While I was a freshman, the business school was just beginning to develop curriculum in Social Entrepreneurship. After taking my first SEI class, I travelled to Cape Town, South Africa for a summer field study project focused on developmental entrepreneurship. It was still early in my college career and experiencing the realities of a developing economy definitely changed my life goals from that point forward. I have since stayed very involved with SEI and have slowly immersed myself in the world of social enterprise.

After seeing the inequities of health care in South Africa and the effect of HIV/AIDS, I was drawn to the fight against HIV/AIDS and became heavily involved with education and fundraising. Partners In Health and their mission of health care as a human right has been a particular interest of mine. I became involved with FACE AIDS on World AIDS Day 2009 when our chapter first began. We started distributing FACE AIDS pins at our HIV/AIDS panel event and have continued to support FACE AIDS ever since.

This past summer I competed in my first two triathlons and was excited by the challenge of biking across the country this summer. From the physical challenge of the ride to the educational and fundraising aspects of our mission, it just seemed that everything about the Ride Against AIDS was perfect for me.

I am excited to embark on a journey this summer and wholly devote myself to this cause.
