What: A 15- or 50-mile bike ride to raise funds to support FACE AIDS’ work in Rwanda.
When: May 7, 2011. 50-mile riders start at 9:00am, and 15-mile riders start at 11:00am.
Where: The ride begins and ends at Weisshaar Park in Palo Alto, and features a beautiful route through the mid-Peninsula.
How Do I Get Involved?: Sign up today! Registration deadline is April 20, 2011.
How Much Do I Have To Fundraise? Each rider is asked to raise $125, 100% of which will go to support FACE AIDS’ programs in Rwanda. As an example of how far $125 can go, it’s enough to provide one year of anti-retroviral treatment to an individual living with HIV/AIDS in Rwanda.
Cool! But How Do I Start Fundraising? Fear not! FACE AIDS is here to help. We’ve created a special Fundraising Guide that includes a sample letter you can send to friends and family, instructions on how to set up your personalized fundraising webpage, and several event and fundraising strategy ideas. Once you register for the ride, you will have the opportunity to create your very own, customized fundraising page through our partner, Citizen Effect. You will also receive weekly fundraising tips from our team. If you need more support, just ask. We’ll brainstorm with you, hook you up with FACE AIDS materials and schwag, whatever you need to reach your goal!
I’ve still got questions. Check out the Bay Ride Frequently Asked Questions below, or e-mail our Events Director, Sidhtara Tep, at sidhtara@faceaids.org.
Each rider is committed to raising at least $125. 100% of funds raised go to support FACE AIDS' programs. Donate by visiting our riders' pages hosted by our partner Citizen Effect or donate below via Google Checkout.

General
I have a ton of friends who want to participate in the ride. Can they join too?
Yes! Just have them fill out the registration form and sign up!
Route
How long is the route?
There are two options. You can choose to either ride 50 miles or 15 miles.
What does the route look like?
The Ride is very scenic and goes through several of the most beautiful locations in the Bay Area. Some of the key locations along the 2010 Ride were Portola Valley, Woodside, and the Crystal Springs Reservoir. Feel free to check out the 50 mile and 15 mile routes from 2010 to get an idea of what the 2011 route will look like.
How difficult is the route?
The route is designed so that anybody can participate and have a good time, from the beginners to the experts. There will be a couple of moments in the route that are uphill, but feel free to get off your bike and walk. On the plus side, wherever there is an uphill, there's always a chance to go downhill.
Will there be breaks along the route?
Absolutely! There will be two rest stops along the route. Look out for the FACE AIDS banner! At each rest stop, there will be refreshments, sunscreen, snacks, and place to rest in the shade until you're ready to keep on biking.
I don't have a bike. Can I still participate in the ride?
Yes! You can rent a bike from the Stanford Bike Shop. Stanford alumni can also rent bikes for free from the Alumni Center.
How will I know where to bike during the actual Ride?
The route will be clearly marked. We will let you know what color route markers to follow during registration. Printed copies of the route map will also be available.
Fundraising
Why do we have to raise $125 to participate in the Ride?
The Bay Ride is an opportunity to take concrete action to improve the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS. $125 represents the cost of providing one adult living with HIV in Rwanda with anti-retroviral treatment for a year.
Do you have any suggestions for how I can fundraise?
Definitely! You can send emails to friends and family, set up a Facebook event, write personal letters, hold an event, sell baked goodies in your dorm, or anything else you can think of! Check out our Fundraising Guide for support, and also take advantage of your customized webpage via Citizen Effect. Instructions will be sent to you upon registration, as well as weekly fundraising tips.
Where can I turn in my donations?
There are multiple options:
Bike Day Logistics
What happens when people finish the ride?
So many things! Following the ride there will be an event at Weissharr Park that will include yummy food and prizes for the winners of the various categories. Last year, Equinox was here to provide massages for all those who participated in the ride. Don't forget to invite your friends!
